During this last week, another Literacy class started in our village. (Yes, gearing down for more torque, we are hardly touching the ground at the pace the Lord is working here!). Although the class is presented here in our village, the students includes people from at least three other villages. Rasu is the teacher of this group and Wasi (from a village 10 km away) the teacher-in-training.
I am encouraged by this group of 19 capable men and women! In fact, two students are so capable that we want to rather put them on a faster course so that they can help with the slower students in this huge class. (We usually do not take more than 15 students per class). Who knows, maybe there will be several new Mwinika teachers raised from this group!
Francois opening the new literacy class by reminding them why we are teaching them to read and write eMwinika – none of them can understand any of other the languages the Holy Scriptures have been translated in! Pray for continued motivation to continue and finish the course well. The first week’s lessons nearly rained out since the class is under a huge mango tree! Pray for the students and especially for Rasu and Wasi, that they will reflect Jesus in all they do.
Three of the students are from, Moenoeta, a village two hour’s walk from us. The people heard about the Bible lessons and after they came to see and hear for themselves, they officially invited us to come and teach it there. Like always, we start a church plant with Literacy classes and they eagerly agreed. We want people to be able to verify what we teach from God’s Word. Unfortunately, we don’t have enough teachers to go to this village now and the result is that they have sent three men to be taught so that they may go back and teach their people. This asks for commitment from their side walking that far each day – one man is in his 70’s and another totally illiterate!
Pray especially for these three men from Moenoeta, that they will be able to finish the course well. Pray too that they Lord will enable them to teach their people.
