Many of you have asked how Moses, the young man who lost his leg after a crocodile attack earlier this year, is doing.
The king of kings and king of our village (the guy next to Nadia in the photo) is one of Moses’ “fathers”. In this culture “father” can mean one of several people, however! It can be one of his uncles on his mother’s side (as it is in this case), his grandfather, sometimes even his big brother or it can be his birth father (as we know it). Moses stayed with his big “father”, the king of our village, when the accident happened. After Moses returned from the big city for the amputation, he came to our house for several weeks to have the wounds cleaned. After it was healed, he stayed a little while longer to recuperate and then his mom (who lives in another village) asked for him to return to her house.
Moses is doing well, according to all the reports we receive. Last week, Moses’ other father came with gifts to thank me for my help, bearing a huge pumpkin and about 20 eggs (a fortune!). I was humbled by their generosity and thanks.
Although we are very thankful that Moses’ mother could have her son back, we are disappointed that her village is too far away he is therefore not able to come to the Bible teaching anymore. Continue to pray for this young man as he faces many challenges in the years to come. (One is that he is supposed to return to the city this month to see if he can be fitted with an artificial leg, however, his family does not have the finances to have this done.) Pray too that he will have a real encounter with Christ and get to know Him as his Saviour.
