Greetings. After six weeks out in town overseeing our NTM guesthouse on
our island, working on translation of the Scriptures, doctor and dentist
visits, and buying supplies, we were helicoptered back here to our home
in our Manubu’ village this morning. We’re both still low on energy,
but doing better each day – or maybe it is each week. Carol is still
having spells of feeling overfull, but is beginning to eat more now.
She hadn’t been eating enough to keep a canary alive! Our most
successful treatments have been papaya seeds, Aloe Vera juice, coconut
oil, garlic, vinegar, ginger, and homeopathic remedies.
We were told earlier today that a number of adults and children here in
our village have been experiencing the same symptoms that we have been
experiencing. According to New Tribers in town they also have found the
symptoms keep returning over a period of weeks.
Please *PRAY* that we and others who have whatever this sickness is will
soon get over it.
But, we can see a *purpose of God* in what we have been experiencing.
Carol had been prescribed an antibiotic after a lab test found a lot of
bacteria. But, each time she took a pill, she got a terrible headache
and felt faint. So, this past Sunday we went to the emergency room at
the little Baptist hospital we use. It took quite a while for the
doctor on call to arrive. While waiting we got talking with a Filipina
lady who is probably in her sixties who was also waiting for the
doctor. She belongs to a religion that teachers eternal salvation
through good works. She was very open to talk about religion and said
she keeps asking the Lord if she is on the right track.
We asked her what she understands she has to do in order to be eternally
accepted by God. She gave us a list of the good things she tries to
do. She listened carefully as we explained Ephesian 2:8 and 9. We also
explained how according to the Bible there is no future judgment where
God weighs our works in order to determine whether we go to be with Him
or to the lake of fire for eternity. We had a long time to explain and
discuss with her God’s plan for eternal salvation. She seemed to
understand. *We praise God* for the opportunity He gave us. What is a
little affliction compared with the opportunity to share about salvation
with a lost person?
Her name is Virgy. Please *PRAY* for her, that she has now understoon
or will clearly understand God’s plan of salvation through faith in what
Jesus accomplished on the cross and not of works, and that she will put
her in faith in what He has done for her.
