Our daughter, Michelle, and her husband, Howie, have been traveling all
summer in the northern mid and western US hauling a 5th wheel camper
with their truck. Yesterday she wrote: “Please pray. I don’t know what’s
going on but yesterday afternoon Howie started acting strange. I had a
hard time understanding him. He mixes words up. Sometimes more than
others, but now he looks at me like I’m speaking another language and
he’s not making much sense. And just now he wanted to use the crock pot
to cook steaks for supper. I’m scared to get in the truck with him
tomorrow. I don’t know if it’s going to get better or worse, but I know
I’m scared, and we’re 2,127 miles from home.”
Howie is diabetic and doesn’t watch his diet, and he seems to have
misplaced his meter so we thought of sugar level as one possibility.
They had just come down the Rockies and are in Washington State so
Michelle was thinking that it could be high altitude sickness.
Today we received this: “Howie had a stroke. We’ve been at the hospital
all day while they run test after test. Waiting on results from the last
one now. The stroke is in the part of the brain that processes things
but doesn’t affect physically. He thinks he’s fine and wants to drive
home. His son wants to fly out and drive the camper home for us but that
makes Howie mad. The Dr won’t tell him he can’t drive so I’ve got a
fight on my hands.”
Howie has no medical insurance. He is a veteran, but the last time he
tried to get an appointment at a VA hospital near home so he could get
more of his pills for his diabetes he was put on a 9 month waiting list!
So, lots of things to pray for for them.
