Timo jumped up when he heard cheering coming from the small schoolroom\u2014one of his favorite places. That\u2019s where one of his uncles had taught him and others from his village to read. The missionaries first taught a small group of his relatives to read, and now his relatives were teaching the rest of them. It was hard work, but how fun it was to be able to read! He was so proud of himself when he finished the 4 primers and readers, and learned to write too. Then he read a small book about flies. Then one about How the Jews Lived. That was quite interesting! Then he tried to read the portions of the New Testament that were translated, but that was a little harder.<\/p>\n
There were still a few other books in their tiny library that was actually just a small shelf. He read \u2018The Boy Who Cried Wolf.\u2019 That was funny! And it reminded him of one of his friends. Then there was a good book about volcanoes. He\u2019d never seen one but he\u2019d heard about them on the radio. His mom was enjoying a book about raising children.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, that was it. He had read and re-read those books over and over and over. He was sure wishing there was more to read!<\/p>\n
So there was that cheering\u2026he just had to go find out what was going on. As he arrived, they all looked at him and yelled, \u201cWe got a new book!\u201d And he started cheering too. They were all very excited. This one was about animals of the world. Now that should be interesting! Fortunately there were enough copies that they could all dive into it at once. He knew now what he\u2019d be doing this morning!<\/p>\n
Timo had no idea what it took to get a new book printed in his very own language. He didn\u2019t know that someone probably had to first write it in English, then someone had to translate it into Pidgin English. Then someone had to draw the pictures, and someone had to put the pictures into the book. Then someone had to edit it. Then someone had to upload it to a special place where the 42 people translators from his village could get it and translate it into HIS language! He didn\u2019t know all that, but he was sure grateful.<\/p>\n
And couldn\u2019t wait for more! This was just too interesting!<\/p>\n

We would appreciate your prayers as we continue writing books for those in PNG. Some have noticed that people who get to read more often and more widely become better, more confident readers. Those that don\u2019t often just give up and don\u2019t progress. I (Janet) have been able to write several more books this year, and am helping get others finished up. Lots more in mind.
