Bena Bena believers take responsibility

August 16, 2006 by

Ian at a recent planning meeting for NTM\'s magazine. It can be hard to tell when a new church is ready to stand on its own. In fact, missionaries sometimes doubt that day will ever come.

But sometimes you can just tell.

David Lee got a clear sign that leaders are taking responsibility for the young Bena Bena church when they started calling on believers to meet and led the meetings themselves.

David, whom I visited when I was in Papua New Guinea last October, completed teaching evangelistic Bible lessons to the Bena Bena just this past spring. (I wrote an article about David that appeared in the May 2006 issue of NTM@work, which you can read online >>)

Now, as he’s teaching through Acts, some of the believers are showing signs of maturity such as applying lessons they are learning to their own lives, in addition to taking on responsibilities.

So far only one man, Maki, is helping teach Bible lessons, but David is hoping Buka and Kokere will soon join them.

Will you join me in rejoicing at the work God is doing among the Bena Bena people, and in praying that Buka and Kokere will help David and Maki teach?

You can read more about what God is doing among the Bena Benas in Tuesday’s article >>
