You didn’t know that you have the power to make it rain? Well, that’s mostly because you don’t. But it’s also because you don’t know what you did in Indonesia last week.
What? You say you weren’t even near Indonesia last week? That’s OK – you don’t have to go there to have a huge impact on the work God is doing there. And you made an impact there because of what you do in our ministry.
In October, much of Indonesia was blanketed by smoke. It’s common for people in rural areas to burn off fields this time of year, to prepare for planting. The smoke was so bad that airports were closed. Pilots were unable to serve the missionaries working in remote villages. Rain was needed to clear the smoke, but none was in the forecast.
So I wrote an article and prayer request about the situation, which went out to thousands of people, who prayed for rain.
“Oh,” you’re thinking, “so that’s what he meant by the headline.”
No, you’re getting ahead of me.
First, the smoke cleared somewhat without rain.
During one of the smokiest seasons that people in Indonesia can remember, visibility one day was nearly 2 miles. Airports opened, and pilots and their work crews hustled to get flights out and take care of the most pressing needs in those remote tribal villages.
Don’t you just love it when God reminds us that He doesn’t need to do things the way we expect Him to?
And then it rained.
Night after night the rains came. Each morning dawned a little clearer, until finally the fires were out and the smoke was cleared from the skies.
Hold on now, the story doesn’t end there.
I wrote a follow-up story that appears on the NTM website today, and a praise item that’s online and going out via e-mail to thousands of people today. They’re being encouraged today to continue in their ministry of prayer.
Because you pray for us, and support us financially, and encourage us in our ministry, we are able to help people see the value of the role they play in missions, and find ways to get more involved.
