Did you ever think of potato chips as a sign of God’s love?
Come on, not even the ones with zero trans fats?
Yeah, me neither.
Until this week.
We decided to stop buying potato chips. We did it to save money. We are doing everything possible to live within $1,650 a month, because we are willing to make the sacrifices necessary to serve God.
But the point is, potato chips are not exactly a big sacrifice.
Can you picture a preacher booming, “What are you willing to give up for God?”
Then us responding, “Potato chips!”
See? Not exactly awe-inspiring.
But then something really weird happened.
For the first time that I can remember, someone donated some potato chips for the missionaries here at the USA home office.
Like, I appreciate it, definitely, but … who donates potato chips?
So we say, “God, serving you is more important than potato chips,” which sounds like the understatement of the year, and God provides potato chips. Why?
Because He loves us. Not just Julie and I – He loves you too.
And I think we must be really special to Him, because the chips are free of trans fats.
I don’t expect God to continue to provide potato chips. If anything, I’d put in an order for tortilla chips. And some salsa.
But gosh – what’s a tangible reminder of the love of God worth? We’re just trying to be faithful in the little things, and God blesses us with a glimpse of Himself.
How cool is that?
