Not all Landumas are singing a new song

October 16, 2007 by

Some Landumas still need to hear how they can get to Heaven.

How does it feel when you realize that people are talking about you? Am I the only one who gets a little concerned about what they’re saying?

That may have been going through missionary Ginny Bryant’s head.

She and her husband Dan have recently joined the missionary team among the Landuma people of Guinea, and they’re still learning the Landuma language.

But as she walked home from church last week, she could tell a group of men was talking about them, and she asked them to explain what they were saying.

These were men who follow traditional Landuma beliefs and had not been worshipping with the believers. But they had heard the service, and they had noted in particular that the believers sang about one day going to Heaven.

One man told Ginny that their religion teaches that only God knows who will go to Heaven.

“I can’t sing that song,” he told her.

This was at once exciting and frustrating for Ginny. It’s exciting to see clear reminders of why she and Dan are there, and openness to talking about these kinds of things.

But it’s frustrating that they do not yet understand Landuma well enough to clearly explain what Jesus has done so this man and his friends could indeed know they how they can go to Heaven.

Please remember to pray for Ginny and Dan and missionaries like them who are working diligently to learn enough in order to clearly share the hope and the future we have in Christ.

Your gifts can help our ministry assist them in tribes around the world? >>
