‘Satan has nothing on God’

How’s it feel when you know the answer?

You know — that anxious feeling of “I know this What if I’m wrong I don’t want to stand up or stand out Isn’t it almost time for the bell?”

Basa must have felt that way, too, but he didn’t let it stop him.

In the question-and-answer session that followed a Bible lesson for the Dinangat people of Papua New Guinea last week, one man asked if Satan could do what he wanted or if he had to follow God’s thinking.

Basa was listening. He is one of the literacy teachers, helping his fellow Dinangats learn to read and write, but like the rest of the people in this village, this is his first time hearing these evangelistic Bible lessons too.

Nonetheless, he knew the answer.

Basa stood up. He walked to the front of the meeting. He told everyone that God is everywhere. God knows everything. God can do anything. God is holy. God is righteous. His words painted a picture of the God he is learning to know and love through lessons that move chronologically through the Bible.

Suddenly he stopped and slammed his foot against the ground, threw his arms open wide and loudly proclaimed, “Satan has nothing on God.”

Amen.

I recently read a book by the former pastor of one of the largest churches in the USA, based on the premise that what God’s people really need is not to know more about God, but to know God. He quoted one of today’s leading Christian thinkers as saying just that. And I agree with him. Sometimes I feel like I don’t really “get it” when it comes to knowing God, and I think you probably feel the same way.

Something tells me Basa is getting it.

Would you pray for Basa and his fellow Dinangats as they hear the lessons that will prepare them to hear the Gospel? Pray that they know God, know their sinful position before Him, and are ready and eager to embrace the gift of salvation He offers them.
