Pictures or numbers?

December 10, 2009 by Ian and Julie Fallis

Do you prefer pictures or numbers?

Most folks prefer pictures.

If you’re like me (and I won’t tell anyone – don’t want to embarrass you), your mind starts to wander when people pour out statistics. Sure, some numbers are useful. If your bank has alerts, it’s probably a good thing if you get a note with numbers when your checking account balance drops below 11 cents. But even then, wouldn’t it be better if it looked like this:

Your checking account balance: 8 cents!

And perhaps it would be better if your bank sent you a photo or illustration of a bank vault that is empty except for a nickel and three pennies on the floor, with the caption, “This is your account balance.”

This is why I’m going to start painting you a picture of our ministry in the coming months. I’m going to paint a word picture, which is kinda cheating, like painting by number (if you’re not familiar with those, look here).

But it’s the best I can do. I’m going to “tag” those on our blog, so you will be able to find them here >>
