Living the dream

Have your dreams ever come true?

When I graduated from high school, I dreamed of becoming a globe-trotting journalist. With Julie and I planning to go to Thailand in October — my fifth trip overseas with NTM — it sounds like I’m living my dream.

I am … but I’m not.

Don’t misunderstand – I love the work God has called me to, and I enjoy traveling. What makes what I’m living today different from my dream is my motivation.

I wanted to be a globe-trotting journalist so I could have great experiences. Today, I want to share those experiences so people get involved in what God is doing.

I wanted to get stories in far-away places, because it’s an ego-boost to be the first to know, and to be the one sharing stories. Now I want to share stories because they glorify God and help others glorify Him.

In short, I wanted to be a globe-trotting journalist for me. Now I do it for God.

Yes, I really do feel like I’m living the dream. It’s not always dreamy, but I’m where God wants me, doing what He wants me to do, and that’s a great place to be.
