Baby names are a big deal.
Our daughter Meghan and son-in-law Jon have spent a lot of time figuring out what to name their first child, due any day now.
And it’s a big deal when someone names their baby after you.
But when Pityan, a Budik believer, named his son after missionary Ken Satorius, it was a really big deal.
Pityan is helping Ken translate Scripture and Bible teaching into Budik. Ken and his wife, Kathy, no longer live in Pityan’s village, and Pityan was under pressure to let someone else in the village name his son.
For that reason alone it was significant that Pityan chose to name his son Ken.
But Pityan explained that he had an even more significant reason for the name.
While Ken talked with Pityan via Skype on a cell phone from the remote little village where he lives, Pityan said, “When I am gone and Ken has grown up, he’ll remember that I worked with Ken on bringing the translation of the Word of God to the Budik people. And so his name will be like a constant reminder of how my people came to have God’s Word in our own language.”
Now that’s a really really big deal.
