The Mwinika believers recently faced a dilemma.
Their old ways demanded that they spend more than a month not eating or drinking during the day, and feasting with each other at night. Would they join them or not?
“I still fast,” one of the believers said, “but now to fast means to me to say thank you to God. The important thing when you are a believer and you go and fast is to do it because you believe in the Savior that truly has cleaned us or our sin. I do it because I am grateful to God for His Savior!
“Before we thought that we just fast to save ourselves before God and to try and make up for our sin. We did not know that when you start to believe in the Savior, He takes away your sin and that you must just be thankful for this. You cannot do anything else!”
But there’s more going on. Going to the after-sundown feasts with other Mwinikas, the believers can tell others why they now follow a new way but now fast. And people are listening. The same believer told missionary Nadia Hattingh that he has not met a single Mwinika yet who does not want to hear the true Word of God.
“They are very touched when they hear the Truth about God. They did not understand the religious language of before and no one knew what God says. Now, we hear the Lord’s Word in our own language. Everyone likes to listen to it!”
The believer asked for prayer for his people.
“We, the Mwinikas, are starting to believe in the words of the Lord God. We did not know His Word or the Truth before. Daily more Mwinikas are added and more and more believe. Do not stop praying! You now have family in Christ here.”
Will you drop us a note to tell us you’re praying for the Mwinikas?
