We were supposed to be on the road already.
But each time the mechanic has fixed something on our car, he’s found something else wrong. Something else that means it is not reasonable to try to drive it back to Sanford.
Since he’s an NTM mechanic, and he’s doing this for us on his time – including coming in Saturday morning to work on it – this doesn’t mean more money for him, just more work.
In the morning he is going to put in a rebuilt water pump. If all goes well, we will be on our way Saturday afternoon.
If the current water pump did not damage the engine.
And there is nothing else wrong with the car.
So …
- Keep praying that we would keep the proper attitude in all this.
- Keep praying that we would see this not as an interruption in our plans but an opportunity to fit into God’s plan.
- Pray about how you are going to respond to this.
I cannot help but think that God is demonstrating to us and to our teammates that we are not to rely on this vehicle for our ministry any longer. We have a responsibility to God to be able to drive thousands of miles a year for ministry, so if we are going to carry out our responsibilities to God, we need to replace our car.
We lack the means to purchase an appropriate vehicle. We serve God full time with no salary. We rely on God to provide for our needs through his people. That provides us with a personal income of $22,000 a year. By living frugally, we do fairly well on that.
However, that doesn’t provide enough for a vehicle purchase. I think it most likely that God will provide for that as he provides for our food and rent and other needs – through His people.
That’s a big need. Or is it really an opportunity? Is it an opportunity for you to make a change so you can give more to God’s work? Is it an opportunity for you to discover that you can live on less and give more? Is it an opportunity for you to grow in your faith? Perhaps it’s just an opportunity to increase your investment in the Great Commission. Is that a good enough reason for you to give?
Perhaps it’s an opportunity for you to present this need or our ministry in general to other believers, and help them get involved in meeting this need and funding our ministry, so more tribes can be reached and more lives transformed.
The last time we presented this need to our team, we received $700. We are thankful for that, but it’s not enough to purchase an appropriate vehicle. I have no idea what God is going to do, but I think it will take some people making special gifts and others committing to monthly giving.
Will you please pray again about how God would have you respond to this need?
If God is leading you to make a gift or a recurring gift to our ministry, you can do so through our blog.
