Africa is inspiring and overwhelming.
I feel inadequate – incompetent, even – to capture the grandeur, the scope, the beauty, the colors of this land.
We spent a little time in Dar Es Salaam, on the east coast of Tanzania. We flew to Mbeya, on the southeast of Tanzania, and drove to Keratu, on the northeast. Now we are back in Dar Es Salaam for the rest of our time here; we return to the USA in roughly one more week.
I’ve videotaped nearly a dozen interviews and shot probably fifty snippets of “B roll” – the footage that gets intercut into interview videos so you’re not staring at a talking head the whole time. We have more interviews this week, and I plan to shoot even more B roll.
I’ve shot roughly 1,100 photos, and I’m pleased with about 100 of them. As with writing, editing is a vital part of the process, and I’ll discard more than I keep. I plan to shoot a lot more in the coming few days.
Today is a rare day when we’re mostly off. Tomorrow we head to a church where we’ve been given the OK to video and photograph, so it’s right back to work. We still have a couple of days at the end for touristy stuff, but it’s looking like one of those may be consumed by other work we want to get done. We’ll see.
Please continue to pray for good health, for stamina, for creativity, and for opportunities to get just the right shots and videos.
