Going my way?

Making good time doesn’t matter if you’re not going in the right direction.

So last week, while backpacking near Sarasota, I stopped. Wondering whether I’d made a wrong turn, I took out my GPS receiver. I was relieved to find I was heading in the right direction.

That’s also why I was on the trail in the first place.

I am, in a sense, making really good time in my ministry. God has given me the amazing opportunity to help many, many people get involved in the work of New Tribes Mission, and in the ministries of several NTM members. I know that everyone involved is blessed as they work together to plant churches among tribal people.

But I’ve been struggling just to keep putting one foot in front of the other. My prayers for more prayer partners, more financial partners and more encouragement partners for our own ministry seem to be answered very sparingly.

Each of you is precious to us, in part because there are precious few of you.

The discouragement and the mounting bills have led me to question whether I am making good time on the wrong trail. I know God led me here, but did I miss a turn somewhere?

Alone with God in the wilderness, I found my answer.

“You’re on the right trail. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other.”

On the literal trail, I disturbed a huge wild pig resting in the path. A creek decided to cut through, and in several places the marsh spread over the trail. All this was in addition to a couple of fallen trees and one belligerent raccoon.

I can’t imagine my trail with God is going to be much different. He didn’t say it was going to get easier. He just said to keep going.
