What did you get for Christmas?<\/p>\n

Yesterday my wife gave me a frying pan for Christmas and a bucket for my birthday. (Yes, I was born on December 25, and yes, they had calendars when I was born. Big stone ones. Crossing out the dates was a bear. But I digress.)<\/p>\n

I got some stocking-stuffers too. Those were just the big gifts.<\/p>\n

A frying pan.<\/p>\n

And a bucket.<\/p>\n

Because my wife knows me and loves me.<\/p>\n

You see, the frying pan is lightweight, with a heat exchanger on the bottom, designed to fit the backpacking stove system I have. And the bucket is a very light nylon folding bucket to replace the one I use while backpacking, which has sprung a leak.<\/p>\n

So it\u2019s a very special frying pan and bucket, each with very specific purposes. Exactly what I needed.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not the first time Christmas provided exactly what I needed.<\/p>\n

It was just an ordinary couple, in a basic stable with a plain-old feeding trough. But theirs was a very special baby, who came to Earth for a very specific purpose. To die. To die for you and me. To die for those folks who missed the meaning of Christmas.<\/p>\n

Because God knows them and you and me, and loves us all.<\/p>\n

Our opportunities to share the meaning of Christmas are becoming rarer and rarer until next year. But this coming year will bring more opportunities to help others see Jesus, in your daily life and also through taking part in our ministry to those who have not heard.<\/p>\n

So I think I\u2019d like to be a bucket this coming year. Not just any bucket. But a bucket with a very specific purpose. A bucket full of Jesus, overflowing with news of salvation.<\/p>\n
