I\u2019m not sure I\u2019m ready for nine days in Texas, but here I go.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m scheduled to leave early this morning for Dallas. (I should mention that I consider staying in bed until 6 a.m. to be sleeping in, so when I say early, I mean early.) There I\u2019ll be meeting with a friend and colleague for a couple of days, as we work primarily on a book project for NTM. (More on that later.)<\/p>\n

Then it\u2019s off to Austin for South by Southwest. That name may sound familiar because it\u2019s a big music festival and a big film festival. But it\u2019s also a big \u201cinteractive\u201d festival, and that\u2019s why three members of our Communications team are going.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s \u201cinteractive\u201d?<\/p>\n

Well, it\u2019s just about everything you interact with \u2013 games, websites, apps, even books and other forms of storytelling. A lot of the emphasis is on future trends \u2013 hence session topics like, \u201cThe Future of Storytelling\u201d and \u201cSolving the Millenial Content Challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n

As you can imagine, as a writer, author and editor, I\u2019m planning to focus on the \u201ccontent\u201d side of things. And our team is going because the better we understand where media and culture and technology are going, the better we\u2019ll be able to convey the challenges and opportunities of missions.<\/p>\n

Our challenge at this point is making sure that before we leave Austin, we\u2019ve grabbed hold of at least one thing that changes everything. I managed to do that when our team went last time, two years ago, and it\u2019s changed my life, vastly improved my writing and taught me valuable lessons that are paying dividends in my ministry. You can read more about that on my author blog.<\/a><\/p>\n

Pray that I and the other two guys from our team get just that kind of boost from South by Southwest. You can pray for them by name: Joel Potter and Jerry Lehman; they’ll be flying out Thursday.<\/p>\n
