Several weeks ago I had the incredible and unexpected privilege of hitching a ride on a legendary airplane with an equally legendary pilot.\u00a0 Over the years I\u2019ve had other phenomenal opportunities, like flying one of America\u2019s frontline, high-performance jets and taking to the friendly skies aboard aircraft which serve our nation\u2019s highest leaders, but this was an honor like no other.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t know Paul Dye\u2019s<\/a> story, I\u2019d encourage you to check it out<\/a> (though if he read this he\u2019d probably rightly remind me it\u2019s not his story but God\u2019s, he simply has the privilege of living it out for God\u2019s gospel and glory).<\/p>\n

Larry<\/a>, Paul\u2019s son, was up front flying too.\u00a0 Aside from being a skilled pilot himself, I\u2019ve found while working around the shop with him that Larry has more creative capacity in his pinky than I\u2019ll probably ever have.\u00a0 He\u2019s like the MacGyver of sheetmetal, give him a bag of soda cans and \u00bd an hour and he could make you a plane of your own.\u00a0 Okay, maybe that\u2019s a bit of a stretch but you get the idea.<\/p>\n

Anyways, as I sat in the back of the Dye’s immaculately restored Cessna 185 (the very plane he was\u00a0kidnapped and later escaped in), I grinned from ear to ear.\u00a0 As we winged our way across the desert I reflected on the two great guys sitting in front of me and I couldn\u2019t help but think how my fledgling experience in mission aviation pales in comparison with all the Lord\u2019s led them through.\u00a0 I thought about the fact that at the end of the day my story is, and may forever be, rather unremarkable in comparison, and you know what?\u00a0 I praised the Lord.<\/p>\n

I praised our Father above because, as Steve Saint said so well in the closing of his book The Great Omission<\/a>:<\/p>\n

“God can use anyone.\u00a0 He is looking for common, ordinary men and women of uncommon commitment.”<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

That\u2019s awesome because I\u2019m an ordinary layman with a capital O and maybe that\u2019s your story too.\u00a0 Maybe you\u2019re thinking you\u2019re \u201cjust\u201d a this or \u201cjust\u201d a that.\u00a0 Truth is, you\u2019re just what God created you to be and He delights in using all the talents and gifts He\u2019s poured into His people to accomplish His purpose in redeeming His creation.<\/p>\n

Here’s the thing…over the next 5 years there are more than 43 specific personnel needs just within New Tribes Mission Aviation (NTMA).\u00a0 18 of those are plain old, \u201cordinary\u201d roles like: \u00a0facility maintainers to keep the infrastructure up and running, bookkeepers to keep us in the black, IT network folks to keep us \u201cconnected,\u201d and men and women gifted in graphic design, marketing, and communications to help get the word out about what the Lord\u2019s doing in and through NTMA.<\/p>\n

Christ\u2019s words to His disciples 2000 years ago ring true still today, \u201cThe harvest is great, but the workers\u00a0are few.\u201d\u00a0 Would you join with us as we \u201c\u2026pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest\u201d and \u201cask Him to send more workers into His fields\u201d? (Luke 10:2)\u00a0 May I ask you to go one step further?\u00a0 Would you consider how the Lord might have you use your \u201cordinary\u201d skill to further His kingdom purposes, impacting\u00a0the least reached peoples of the world with His truth?<\/p>\n

Legend or layman, there\u2019s a place for you in the Great Commission!<\/p>\n
