We are excited to know that this year around Papua New Guinea there are more brothers and sisters that get to celebrate Easter with a new Biblical understanding… they are children of God! Since last Easter, God has worked in many lives! More Iski people in the Masa village have been added to God’s family. More people have shared their testimonies of faith with baptisms in Wantakia, Tanguat, Tobo, Kaze, Maliyali. Also Kaulong and Dinangat believers have more of God’s Word in their own language. Plus the Simbari believers have a completed New Testament in their heart language!
This year our children wanted to know why “Good Friday” is called “Good”. The disciples didn’t see it as a very good day, in fact to them it would have seemed like the worst Friday in all of history, as their King was dying on a cross. In their eyes, this was not a part of a good plan. Yet this is what needed to happen, in order for God to take away our sins. From the Biggest Story Bible Storybook by Kevin DeYoung, “And it was good – very good, amazingly good. We would say it was unbelievably good, accept that it happened and believe it. Jesus suffered so that we can be set free. Jesus died so that we can live forever. Jesus was the Good Shepherd laying down His life for His sheep, that’s why we call it Good Friday.”
We are thankful we can be here in PNG to support Church Planting efforts through the guesthouse ministry. We get to watch and see how God is working in many ways, including in our daily lives as He directs our days. He makes things happen moment by moment to bring glory to Himself. God loves each of His children that are here as missionaries. And God loves each of the PNG people who are just hearing about the Good News of a Saviour to free them from their bondage of sin. It is encouraging to know that God is always faithful in taking care of all His children. Despite a fuel crisis, visa delays, broken water systems, power outages and shortage of certain foods, God is in control and working all these things for His good and for the good of His children. We also lost a citizen co-worker this year because God called him home. God has a good, good plan, even when it doesn’t seem good to us. We look forward to seeing how He brings Glory to Himself through this.
This year on our centre, we have been enjoying many different ways of serving and encouraging missionaries from both NTM and many other Christian organizations. At the Guesthouse, we have been doing a lot of cooking, training, building and planning . Jacob has been busy fixing and maintaining the Centre’s water system and training others to help him. He has also been enjoying some time training security dogs. He has completed trained one dog and the dog is now working as a security dog on our NTM Centre in the Sepik region. Jacob is happy to help by training dogs! He has also been busy fixing tools, fixing the guesthouse golf cart, planning out future projects and setting up a little workshop for himself at the guesthouse. We were also quite busy in the last month prepping food for our Centre gathering. We baked snacks/dessert and cooked one dinner meal for about 185 people. It was fun to be able to help in this way. Beth catered this Conference during her ministry at the Interface campus many years ago. In the last year we got our old Interface 40 Quart mixer back and so Beth and the guesthouse ladies had a great time baking up a storm with the combination of the old Interface mixer and convection oven that we have here in our conference kitchen. We are happy to continue to serve in this way and thankful that God gives wisdom to figure out new and different logistics.
Jonathan and Naomi finished the 3rd term and are enjoying a couple weeks of school break. They have enjoyed reading a lot, playing with their friends, a pool day, as well as VBS for our conference Day plus a water slide! Campfires every Saturday evening is also a highlight, as our neighbors, any guesthouse guests and friends stop by.
The graphic designer, Lea, who is volunteering at our centre until May is making great progress on her beautiful and creative plan to redecorate the guesthouse rooms and main guesthouse with the theme of the fruit of the spirit. Our guesthouse is being transformed! We have a vision for our guesthouse to be a welcoming place that reminds guests of how God is transforming them day by day. Please see our photos on our blog for photos.
We are still in the need of teachers!! Thankfully our kids will still be able to go to school next year, but there will not be any extra classes, like art, music, technology and PE. I want to ask again, if you could pray and spread the word of our great need for teachers for next school year! We need teachers of all kinds! If you know someone who teaches, please tell them about this exciting opportunity. If you teach, please prayerfully consider coming yourself. We would love to have friends/family here helping to teach not only our kids but all the students at NCA!
