The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord. Job 1:21

July 31, 2014 by Jacob and Beth Devine

Today is a very sad day and also a very happy day in our lives…. We heard the news that Jonathan has a new cousin, the first on the Devine side of the family, Marshall Douglas Devine! But we also heard the news that Beth’s grandmother, Louise Wheeler, has passed away at age 94. She went to her new home in her sleep. It is hard to be away from family at this time. We would appreciate your prayers.

My mom wrote to tell us that my grandma had passed away…. There is a celebration in heaven!  Now she is at peace and no longer in pain.  A lot of people say that to comfort others and they don’t really believe it but they say the words to be kind.  But we know it is true for Gramma.   She use to say to me when she got another new pain in her body, “What next!” and I would say “You will be in heaven having coffee with your brothers and seeing your husband and daughter.  You will be directing a heavenly choir. ” (She was a choir director at her church for almost 68 years!) That is what’s next.  She would smile and say “That will be very nice.”   God has taken one of his children home and blessed one of his children with a child, all in the same day!

The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord. Job 1:21

We would also appreciate your prayers for all of us here at the NTM Centre as we adjust to all the comings and goings of missionaries. In the last three months we have had three families leave and five families and a single gal return or arrive for the first time. There are lots of things going on as people have passed on their ministry responsibilities and other people are learning new ministries.

Praises!

–          God has given NTM PNG a new Kodiak airplane! And He has sent a few missionary pilots this way as well!!

–          A Savior who loves us, takes care of us and knows every detail of our lives!

–          Jacob’s brother and sister-in-law gave birth to their first child!

–          Nate, Chef friend, came to visit before cooking for the Interface program in Madang region!

–          Fun time together with Nate, visiting, eating fresh fish, enjoying the ocean, playing games and eating at a couple of restaurants!

–          Jonathan will be 1 ½ years old very soon! Now he is running around everywhere, repeating words that we teach him and eating with a fork!

–          We have received Jonathan’s Canadian passport.

–          God’s continued provision for our needs moment by moment!

–          Safety at work for Jacob!

–          Renovation of the National Guest house is complete.

–          Our internet and email are working now!

–          Return of the Greenlaw family and Hope Sharp!

–          Hutteman family joining our team here after finishing up their ministry in a bush location! Another Church established!

–          Arrival of Greg and Kristen Michaels, more help for Jacob and Bill in the workshop!

–          Arrival of the Myer and Goheen family who are heading into a new tribe to learn the language & culture in order to present the Gospel message!

Prayer requests:

–          Ability to enjoy each day, no matter what circumstances God places in our paths each day.

–          Grace and peace as we are away from family during this time.

–          Rest in God as we enjoy being parents each day.

–          Wisdom as Jacob works each day to repair and maintain the NTM Center.

–          Wisdom for Jacob and Bill as they plan and work on the new Boat House.

–          Healing of our friend, Elissa, so she can work full time in PNG.

–          God would continue to raise up more missionaries to come to the Sepik and bring the Gospel to those who have never heard it their own heart language.

–          Rich and Dawn Foster & family, as they raise more support so they can return to PNG and settle back into a ministry with the Bena.

–          More co-workers to work alongside Rich and Dawn Foster.

Thank you all for your prayers and encouragement!
