Dear friends,
Thank you for praying for us. We just wanted to write a quick update on our prayer request that were sent in our last newsletter but we needed to write a blog post because our newsletter is needed for other things. We have seen many answers to prayer in the past few months. We had a very busy month of March with the conferences but they were very good and we have already been applying the information. Please see the previous blog post to find out more about that.
Our co-worker had a healthy 10 lb baby boy and I didn’t need to go with her to the hospital. Our field nurse ended up going with her instead and I was so grateful. Jacob was able to take them all to the hospital, which was a blessing. I was able to help her learn how to care for the various needs of her newborn. She is a great mom and is doing well. Another praise was that it happened during a time of peace in our city. Praise God for coordinating everything perfectly!
While we were doing the coaching and debriefing conferences, we heard about a man that fell off a roof in a neighboring country while he was there with a work team, and he needed better medical care than that country could provide. They decided instead of paying a large sum to fly him to Europe or back to the States, they would bring him here to Dakar. We were able to welcome this man and his family in our guesthouse after he was stabilized. They received much better immediate care here in Dakar. He is now recovering back in the States with his family. Their family was very appreciative of the help we gave: from helping them get groceries, finding taxi drivers, caring for their dad and just making sure they were doing okay. They described the guesthouse as an oasis.
We have recently hosted some big teams. One short term team was here to build a church and the other was working with schools. Our roles were varied from working with them to find what they needed to making their stay comfortable- extra water, helping organize meal prep, finding the ingredients that they needed for their meals and rearranging rooms to make things work for their teams.
Several weeks ago, in one day we were helping someone whose phone was stolen, taking their son to the doctor to get stitches and providing them dinner. Needless to say it was a very full day, but they were so grateful for our help as it was a very stressful day for them.
These are just a few of the many things that have occupied our time in the last many months. We are happy to be serving and very fulfilled in what we are doing. One of our co-workers came up to our house to talk about something the other day and he got offered an omelette and some coffee. His comment was “You can’t take the host out of Honebein!”. Thank you for helping us be here to host others in order to refresh and care for them so that they can continue to share with others the Good News!
