It’s a hard statistic to track, since there are so many versions, languages, and publishers, but one statistic that I found estimated around 5 billion have been printed. Since the world population is 7.5 billion, and I can count 8 Bibles that I have owned in my life, it feels a little selfish and greedy to complain that one of my Bibles isn’t in as good of shape as I would like. Nevertheless, here I go.

My beautiful leather study Bible that I brought to Brazil has started to deteriorate. Patches of leather have come off of it, and every time I pick it up, more little bits come off on my hands. I’m sure that this is partly due to the high humidity in the tropics, so I expect it to get worse when I return. Ideally, it could be rebound in the same sort of water-resistant cover that you find on missionary display tables in obscure languages. They don’t feel as nice as leather, but there’s a reason that type of cover is chosen for people who live in the jungle.

I don’t have any experience in rebinding a Bible. If you know someone or have the skill to put a new cover on a Bible, I’d love to hear from you.

The Bible is the worlds all-time best selling book, with billions of copies in print.
