As I wandered through the halls of the BI and saw several beautiful Christmas trees in various locations, I was mindful of our first Christmas tree in Paraguay, in 1979. I was so homesick, that I did not even want to think about Christmas, let alone celebrate it! But, just a few days before that December 25th date, in 1979, I changed my mind.
Although, not having much hope of finding a tree, we started out on our mission. With sweat running down our legs into our flip-flops and checking out all the little stores in our river town, we finally found one!
Needless to say, it was a bit disappointing, but over the years we have faithfully put up that same tree … for us … for our kids … for students and friends … and now for us again! It has become pretty pitiful looking but now it holds so many memories that I do not even consider a different one! So, from our home to yours – Merry Christmas!
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him.” (Romans 15:13 NIV)
