{"id":198,"date":"2016-07-07T12:26:34","date_gmt":"2016-07-07T17:26:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jared-kresge\/?p=198"},"modified":"2016-07-07T12:29:59","modified_gmt":"2016-07-07T17:29:59","slug":"new-territory-and-why-were-not-excited","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jared-kresge\/2016\/07\/07\/new-territory-and-why-were-not-excited\/","title":{"rendered":"New Territory (And Why We&#8217;re Not Excited)"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_199\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-199\" style=\"width: 598px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-199\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jared-kresge\/files\/2016\/07\/New-Territory-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"New Territory\" width=\"598\" height=\"398\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jared-kresge\/files\/2016\/07\/New-Territory-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jared-kresge\/files\/2016\/07\/New-Territory-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jared-kresge\/files\/2016\/07\/New-Territory-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jared-kresge\/files\/2016\/07\/New-Territory.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 598px) 100vw, 598px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-199\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Titus and his cousin cautiously explore new territory in the tide pools of Maine&#8211;a reflection of our feelings as we embark on many new experiences in the coming months.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As we near our departure date for Asia-Pacific, we are often asked, &#8220;Are you excited to move overseas?&#8221; \u00a0We usually answer, &#8220;Yeah, we&#8217;re really looking forward to it! \u00a0Can&#8217;t wait!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Truth be told, we&#8217;re not.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve both experienced our fair share of excitement over trips in the past. \u00a0I remember high school missions trips and the giddy anticipation that accompanied them&#8211;the careless abandon with which I launched into every new experience. \u00a0But that was back when I lived with my parents. \u00a0Back when somebody else was in charge of planning the itinerary, the lodgings, the food, the vaccinations, you name it! \u00a0Back when my greatest worry was remembering to pack Immodium in case of a reaction to bad water.<\/p>\n<p>The tables have turned with a vengeance. \u00a0We&#8217;re the grown-ups now, with so much on our minds to plan, to purchase, children to protect and provide for, people to see before we leave&#8230;it&#8217;s all a little overwhelming. \u00a0And we&#8217;re not just going for a two-week immersion trip this time. \u00a0We will actually have to deal with real culture shock and the reality that we can&#8217;t run back to Mom and Dad after a couple of weeks and get back to &#8220;normal life.&#8221; \u00a0We&#8217;ll be living\u00a0a totally new normal.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, we do have a lot to be excited about. \u00a0We get to watch God work through all these hurdles and trials that often seem insurmountable to us&#8211;and He <em>always<\/em> shows Himself strong. \u00a0We get to take our kids along (soon to be THREE BOYS!) on a life adventure that most kids couldn&#8217;t even begin to imagine. \u00a0We get to experience a new culture and learn to love new people that we otherwise wouldn&#8217;t have known existed. \u00a0We get to serve in a hands-on way that utilizes our God-given strengths and highlights God&#8217;s power as we also encounter\u00a0our great weaknesses.<\/p>\n<p>No, we&#8217;re not excited in the fun, giddy sort of way. \u00a0But we have quiet anticipation as we follow the Lord&#8217;s faithful leading into completely new territory. \u00a0Will you pray that God will\u00a0enable us with\u00a0strength, courage, and joy in the midst of new circumstances?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As we near our departure date for Asia-Pacific, we are often asked, &#8220;Are you excited to move overseas?&#8221; \u00a0We usually answer, &#8220;Yeah, we&#8217;re really looking forward to it! \u00a0Can&#8217;t wait!&#8221; Truth be told, we&#8217;re not.
