{"id":211,"date":"2016-09-08T02:26:14","date_gmt":"2016-09-08T07:26:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jared-kresge\/?p=211"},"modified":"2016-09-08T02:28:17","modified_gmt":"2016-09-08T07:28:17","slug":"211","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jared-kresge\/2016\/09\/08\/211\/","title":{"rendered":"New Home, New Eyes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-212 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jared-kresge\/files\/2016\/09\/Collage-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"collage\" width=\"548\" height=\"548\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jared-kresge\/files\/2016\/09\/Collage-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jared-kresge\/files\/2016\/09\/Collage-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jared-kresge\/files\/2016\/09\/Collage-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jared-kresge\/files\/2016\/09\/Collage-600x600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jared-kresge\/files\/2016\/09\/Collage.jpg 929w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 548px) 100vw, 548px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Yesterday marked exactly one month since we arrived in Asia Pacific. \u00a0In that time, our vision has expanded significantly.<\/p>\n<p>During the first few days, we could only grasp information about three feet in front of us. \u00a0We noticed things like shiny tile floors, dirty gutters, and flags decorating every street (we arrived around Independence Day). \u00a0When we were inside a store, all we recognized was the store itself.<\/p>\n<p>Moving on to week two, we began to recognize a few street corners. \u00a0Sounds and smells became more familiar, and we didn&#8217;t necessarily have to crash on the bed for an hour after every overwhelming trip to the shopping district.<\/p>\n<p>In week three, we felt comfortable enough to &#8220;get lost&#8221; in the city a few times (there&#8217;s nothing like it for figuring out where you are in the world!). \u00a0Now, after four weeks, we&#8217;ve graduated to knowing about\u00a0<em>half<\/em> the route to the downtown district. \u00a0After that first half, it&#8217;s still a little murky.<\/p>\n<p>Our western eyes and minds still need plenty of adjustment as we learn to live and flourish in this new culture. \u00a0Our ears need to attune to all the phonemes and inflections\u00a0of a new language. \u00a0Our tastebuds need to adapt to new flavors. \u00a0Our driving reflexes need to switch\u00a0from the right side to the left side of the road. \u00a0Our bodies need to accept the climate change, for better or worse. \u00a0But the one thing that doesn&#8217;t change is our hearts&#8217; need to depend on Jesus Christ, the Rock of Salvation, an ever-present help in time of need. \u00a0Our realization of that need is greater now than ever before, but the true need hasn&#8217;t changed at all.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-213 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jared-kresge\/files\/2016\/09\/IMG_20160823_1934164002-300x188.jpg\" alt=\"img_20160823_1934164002\" width=\"409\" height=\"256\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jared-kresge\/files\/2016\/09\/IMG_20160823_1934164002-300x188.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jared-kresge\/files\/2016\/09\/IMG_20160823_1934164002-768x481.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jared-kresge\/files\/2016\/09\/IMG_20160823_1934164002-600x375.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 409px) 100vw, 409px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Pray for us, as we pray for you, that our eyes will be lifted from the three&#8230;or thirty&#8230;or even three hundred feet in front of our toes (both literally and figuratively) to the greater perspective that allows us to\u00a0meet each day with overflowing love, joy, and eternal hope.<\/p>\n<p><em>Although it&#8217;s not quite proper to include a P.S. on a blog post, we should add that our unit figuring needs to change, as well. \u00a0That previous comment should read something like &#8220;one meter&#8230;ten meters&#8230;or even one hundred meters in front of our toes.&#8221; \u00a0Thank goodness for smartphones and unit conversion\u00a0apps! \u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday marked exactly one month since we arrived in Asia Pacific. \u00a0In that time, our vision has expanded significantly.
