The Great things include:
The People: They are very friendly. Anytime you are on the road walking, which is the number one way of transportation here, every one has to tell each other what they are doing. So, If you pass a person they must tell you where they are going and you must tell them what you are doing. It’s a kind of greeting. There is no “minding your own business” in PNG.
The Fruit and Veggies. If you put it in the ground it will grow! And it is yummy!
The Scenery: It is like being on an exotic vacation all the time! We have an ocean view from our front porch!
Working together as a Family: Most husbands and wife’s do not get to work together. Jeremy and I see each other a lot and help each other with language, and it is so great getting to be with our kids as much as we do learning language.
Our friends: Our coworkers BJ and Jill Sanders and their sweet kiddos are here doing life with us, which make things so much better. They are our family here!
The not so great things:
The bugs: Bugs are crazy here. We get bit a lot. The flies are really nuts. If you have a small cut on your skin, they will attack it and get it very infected so you must cover all cuts ASAP. Also I have gotten pretty used to ants being on my counter tops all the time. Not to mention mosquitos love mine and the girls skin. Calamine Lotion is my new BFF!
The heat: Without AC you really notice how hot it is. Cold showers are awesome. The hottest part of the day is when I am cooking dinner so it’s like extra, extra hot with the stove or oven going. Because you sweat practically all the time, all you feel is sticky and never really very clean. French Braids have been nice to keep my hair off my neck.
No Fast food: Every meal I make takes time. We are missing getting to eat out whenever we want. Chick-fil-a sounds so good right now! And McDonalds breakfast!
The Mold: Mold grows like wild fire because of all the humidity. We are finding it on plenty of things, Clothes, bathroom bags, my Vera Bradley Cover for my Chi:( , and other things.
To sum it up the good overrides the bad. We did not come her for the comfort, but to tell those who have not heart about The Creator God who loves them and wants a relationship with them. We are so thankful for your prayers. Thank you for holding the ropes back at home for us so that we can endure the good and bad for God’s glory here in PNG!
