When Graffiti is Beautiful!

May 18, 2007 by Jerry and Joyce McDaniels

We\`ve found one downside of teaching literacy...graffiti!

Looks like we finally have found one downside of literacy – graffiti!

On our recent trip to Mexico we were able to spend some time in the mountains where the Tarahumara people live where the missionary team is learning language and preparing to begin a literacy program. The missionaries have been doing some trial runs of the materials with Tarahumara youth and we’ve finally found the first downside of teaching people to read and write! It’s graffiti! Yes, the young people are so excited about learning to write their own language, that they are writing their vowels and names everywhere.

What a thrill to know that these Tarahumara people will one day hear God’s Word, and be able to read it for themselves! Please pray that God will establish strong churches among the Tarahumara people. Would you pray that the missionaries will have ability in the language and in their understanding of the culture? There are several big areas in the culture that God will have to break through. Pray also for the translation of the Bible into Tarahumara which is going on in another location.
