What is post-literacy?

March 25, 2024 by Jerry and Joyce McDaniels

After learning to read in literacy classes, people need lots of books to practice and improve their reading speed, accuracy, comprehension, and writing skills. We call this post-literacy reading practice.

The post-literacy materials are organized from simpler reading to more difficult. They begin with interesting stories about local topics. They progress to educational literature such as health booklets or information about other countries. Then the post-literacy materials move into spiritual-based reading such as Bible stories and lessons. These books become local libraries in the communities. And ultimately, they bring people to reading from the best book of all – the Bible translated into their language!

We are looking for people who can write stories (both fictional and non-fiction) and artists that can illustrate post-literacy materials. These would come with open permission to be freely translated and printed. If you are interested in helping, message us in the comments below and we will send more information.
