We hope you all had a sweet Easter celebrating Jesus. I have to admit I was feeling a wee bit sorry for us that we couldn’t be with our Salem family on Ressurection Sunday. Then, on Sunday morning, God changed my mind. I was reading 1 Corinthians 15 and remembered that Easter Sunday isn’t about getting to be where we want to be, doing what we want to do. If Jesus wasn’t raised from the dead, then sure, “let’s eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.” (1 Cor. 15:32) If this life is all there is and then we die, we might as well do what feels good NOW. But if Jesus IS alive, then we have hope not only in this life, but also in the life to come. And if that’s true, then let’s rejoice in the power of the gospel and spend our lives pointing other people to Jesus Christ…even if that means living a somewhat nomadic life and not getting to be with our family or our home church on special days. After all, we have a whole whoppin’ eternity in which to celebrate God together in heaven. But time is running out here on earth, and Jesus is on a mission drawing men to Himself, and we have the awesomest privilege to get on board with His mission. By “we” I mean us – all of us. You there, us here…all of us wherever we are. Let’s be happy that Jesus has filled our life on earth with joy and purpose.
And…the weeks are counting down. We are excited to see you again in the summertime. Please pray for wisdom for us as we try to hammer out some reasonable summer plans, and we’ll keep you posted as they materialize. We haven’t forgotten you; don’t forget us either. 🙂
With love from the Rich family,
Danica
P.S. We still get Salem prayer chain messages and praises on our cell phone from time to time. Thank you so much Pastor Steve for those messages! Often they have come as a welcome reminder that we are part of the Salem body even when we are away, and they remind us to pray together and rejoice together with all of you.
