When technology is only “fluff”, weighing us down, wasting our time, tangling us up, and preventing us from moving freely from place to place and doing what God called us to do,
we’d rather not have it.
“…let us strip off every weight that slows us down…” (Heb. 12: 1b, NLT)
But when technology makes us freer to do what God would have us do in this world, we use it with thankful hearts.
Thus, the kindle entered our life.
We thought about the expense and hassle of moving our books internationally, plus later the difficult move into the jungle, plus the trouble of protecting that much yummy paper from termites and ants, not to mention humidity and mold, plus the difficulty of deciding which books to bring back out of the jungle with us when we went on home assignment once every four years, plus the difficulty and disadvantages of adding to our library in the future…etc, etc…
It might be good to clarify, here, that by “books”, we do not mean novels. The books we are hoping to take with us are the ones that help us continue to grow as a person, a husband, a wife, a parent, a missionary, a child of God…those kinds of books. You know…like Hesselgrave, Piper, Brother Yun…
And so with thankful hearts we got a kindle and started compacting our library.
This is a huge help! We still have a lot of titles that are not available on kindle, especially books we used in training and continue to use in ministry. (What? No Hesselgrave on kindle? No Foundational Bible Teaching curriculum? No Spirit of the Rainforest?) So we will take those paper versions with us. But still, our load is much lighter and our tools are all still there.
Thank You, Lord.
And now: we have all these paper books that we don’t need. So if you have been looking for one of these titles, stop by and get it. Or give us a call and we’ll bring it next time we see you. You may offer a donation, if you want, and that will help us with the expense of transferring our library to kindle or other moving expenses. We would suggest a donation similar to what you would typically pay to get a book from Amazon or the used book store. But if you want to read the book and the book is not in your budget please don’t worry about it; seriously, take it anyways. If you live far away, we will be happy to send it to you if you don’t mind paying for the shipping yourself.
Here is the list of titles available; which we may add to in the future.
Disclaimer: Just because a book is on the list does not imply that we agree with every word that goeth forth out of the mouth of the author. It does probably mean that we found something in the book worth applying in our own lives and keeping as a resource, otherwise it wouldn’t be here.
