We had tons of fun, learned alot, and didn’t freeze!\u00a0 Here (above) you can see our campsite, with the shelter that Jevon built for us in the background.\u00a0 It features a double-decker hammock arrangement, covered with tarps, which were hung on a rope between two trees.\u00a0 And in the foreground, you can see the firepit we built, featuring a hot-plate: a flat-topped stone on which we boiled the water we got from the spring.\u00a0 Below: Karina filling in for Daddy at Bible-reading time.<\/p>\n

We did some more compass exercises, out in the hills.\u00a0 Below: Cali and Karina studiously helping their Daddy with the coordinances.<\/p>\n

And of course this involved some trekking over some hills, through some ravines, and deep into many thickets.\u00a0 I was so proud of Cali – I did not hear any whining, even when her sleeves got caught on thorns or when branches flung toward her face!\u00a0 She was such a good sport.\u00a0 We were glad to have our kids with us on this activity, since they are in training too, after all.\"DSCN2533\"<\/p>\n

I wished I could have gotten pictures of us learning to butcher a chicken…I am such a hands-on learner so those kinds of activities are really helpful to me.\u00a0 But I was happy that another guy on our team got to kill it; I only had to skin it and clean it and cut it into pieces.\u00a0 Yet another team member threw it in the frying pan and ate it for his dinner.<\/p>\n

After it got dark, our team leaders took us out on the side of the hill and showed us how to find Polaris – the North star – and some constellations.\u00a0 (We practiced that some more on our own, after we got home.)<\/p>\n
