“Okay,” our teacher pointed to the water reservoir on the powerpoint diagram, “in this situation, how many of you think you would want to place your pipe in the bottom of the tank?”\u00a0 We kept our hands down.\u00a0 The scenario was a gravity feed water system, but there was a huge rock in front of the reservoir blocking the path of the proposed pipe.\u00a0 We had already learned that the “water head” was the same at the top of the tank and at the bottom, so why should we try to blast through the rock just so the pipe could go in at the bottom?\u00a0 “How many of you think it should go near the top?”\u00a0 Almost all of us raised our hands.\u00a0 “How many want it in the middle?”\u00a0 One guy raised his hand.<\/p>\n
“Well only one of you is right.” our teacher said, “and here’s why.”\u00a0 As soon as he explained the ways of water, it made perfect sense why we would want the pipe in the middle this time.\u00a0 But without knowing the ways of water…I would probably guess wrong most of the time.<\/p>\n
