{"id":421,"date":"2012-07-02T16:28:27","date_gmt":"2012-07-02T21:28:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jevon-rich\/?p=421"},"modified":"2012-07-02T16:28:27","modified_gmt":"2012-07-02T21:28:27","slug":"honey-i-shrunk-the-books","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jevon-rich\/2012\/07\/02\/honey-i-shrunk-the-books\/","title":{"rendered":"Honey, I shrunk the books!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When technology is only &#8220;fluff&#8221;, weighing us down, wasting our time, tangling us up, and preventing us from moving freely from place to place and doing what God called us to do,<\/p>\n<p>we&#8217;d rather not have it.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;&#8230;let us strip off every weight that slows us down&#8230;&#8221;\u00a0 (Heb. 12: 1b, NLT)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But when technology makes us freer to do what God would have us do in this world, we use it with thankful hearts.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, the kindle entered our life.<\/p>\n<p>We thought about the expense and hassle of moving our books internationally, plus later the difficult move into the jungle, plus the trouble of protecting that much <strong>yummy<\/strong> paper from termites and ants, not to mention humidity and mold, plus the difficulty of deciding which books to bring back out of the jungle with us when we went on home assignment once every four years, plus the difficulty and disadvantages of adding to our library in the future&#8230;etc, etc&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>It might be good to clarify, here, that by &#8220;books&#8221;, we do not mean novels.\u00a0 The books we are hoping to take with us are the ones that help us continue to grow as a person, a husband, a wife, a parent, a missionary, a child of God&#8230;those kinds of books.\u00a0 You know&#8230;like Hesselgrave, Piper, Brother Yun&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>And so with thankful hearts we got a kindle and started compacting our library.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jevon-rich\/files\/2012\/07\/DSCN2961.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-459\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jevon-rich\/files\/2012\/07\/DSCN2961.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"390\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jevon-rich\/files\/2012\/07\/DSCN2961.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jevon-rich\/files\/2012\/07\/DSCN2961-300x195.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is a huge help!\u00a0 We still have a lot of titles that are not available on kindle, especially books we used in training and continue to use in ministry.\u00a0 (What?\u00a0 No Hesselgrave on kindle?\u00a0 No Foundational Bible Teaching curriculum?\u00a0 No Spirit of the Rainforest?)\u00a0 So we will take those paper versions with us.\u00a0 But still, our load is much lighter and our tools are all still there.<\/p>\n<p>Thank You, Lord.<\/p>\n<p>And now: we have all these paper books that we don&#8217;t need.\u00a0 So if you have been looking for one of these titles, stop by and get it.\u00a0 Or give us a call and we&#8217;ll bring it next time we see you.\u00a0 You may offer a donation, if you want, and that will help us with the expense of transferring our library to kindle or other moving expenses.\u00a0 We would suggest a donation similar to what you would typically pay to get a book from Amazon or the used book store.\u00a0 But if you want to read the book and the book is not in your budget please don&#8217;t worry about it; seriously, take it anyways.\u00a0 If you live far away, we will be happy to send it to you if you don&#8217;t mind paying for the shipping yourself.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here is the list of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">titles available<\/span>; which we may add to in the future.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Disclaimer: Just because a book is on the list does not imply that we agree with every word that goeth forth out of the mouth of the author.\u00a0 It does probably mean that we found something in the book worth applying in our own lives and keeping as a resource, otherwise it wouldn&#8217;t be here.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">The Heavenly Man: the Remarkable True Story of Chinese Christ Brother Yun<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Bruchko<\/span> by Bruce Olson<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Who I am in Christ: A Devotional<\/span> by Neil T.
