Literacy Prayer Request

November 20, 2015 by James and Judy Burdett

folk-with-their-biblesUp until now, mostly our church folk have taken literacy.  We need a whole new group of students to test out a major change we made in how we write a certain sound in the Dom language.  We tried to test it before we went on Home Assignment last year, but could get no new students.  We believe a lot of the problem is that people outside our church and local community will not come down to our church building where we have held literacy in the past.  So we have gotten permission from the local school to use one of the class rooms and they also gave us a little room to lock all our literacy materials in.

Jim and Gena this past week have taken the Dom New Testaments to other pastors of other churches in the area and said our Bible was for everyone and if they were interested in learning how to read Dom, we would be holding a class starting Monday at the local school.  A lot of interest was expressed.

Please pray that we would get a sufficient number of new students (some of our former students who never finished have expressed interest also).  Pray that those who start, would finish.  It takes many months and they get tired of it as it is not in their background to stick at something like this every week day.

Pray also that we would get some former students who would be willing to learn to teach literacy and help as it takes several people to teach a large class.

We will keep you updated on the progress.
