{"id":2,"date":"2009-08-14T16:30:51","date_gmt":"2009-08-14T20:30:51","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2017-04-29T20:53:11","modified_gmt":"2017-04-30T00:53:11","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/jim-burdett\/about\/","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We returned to the Dom people of Papua New Guinea in October of 2015. \u00a0We have settled back into ministry. \u00a0Jim continues to revise teaching lessons and working on Old Testament lessons. \u00a0Judy is making sure that our literacy program is all updated. \u00a0It has been difficult to get any classes going. \u00a0The Dom New Testament (a provisional copy) is being well used. \u00a0The Dom New Testament dedication went well. \u00a0Now Jim is working on corrections and revisions so that we can print a hard back copy of the Dom New Testament.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Our History<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Jim and Judy met during missionary training in 1979. \u00a0We married in 1980 and went to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Papua New Guinea<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"> in January of 1982. Jim grew up in Southern California, but for Judy being an MK from <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Papua New Guinea<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">, this was going back home. Rather than start a new work we joined one already in progress among the Dom speaking people of the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Highlands<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0There was a local church raised up already from the efforts of previous missionaries.\u00a0 \u00a0So after completing language and culture study in 1985 Jim began teaching and discipling the Dom Christians and gearing up for translation. \u00a035 years later, we can look back and see the grace of God prevail despite many setbacks and trials. Our coworkers left one by one until we found ourselves alone in 2000. \u00a0We have been working on our own since, teaching the Word, discipling, teaching literacy, doing medical and translation of the New Testament. The Lord has blessed us with four\u00a0local churches that though small in number, are hanging in there for the Lord.
