Becak Lessons

May 10, 2007 by Joanna K Jansma

What`s Wrong with This Picture?

Normally this becak is a taxi, but  I asked the owner of  this one if I could try out his wheels!  Since living in Asia Pacific, I have been intrigued for some time with the thought of attempting to drive a becak!  For any of you that might also end up driving a becak some day, it is a good idea to ask where the brakes are BEFORE you sail off in a whirl of excitement!  The story did have a happy ending nonetheless, besides some moments of panic.  And not only do I praise the Lord MORE after that hard work-out for having “automated” wheels to go to school, meet with people and  be involved in ministry here.  I also was reminded how my lessons on the becak are like my daily dependence on the Lord.   It isn’t just when driving a becak that I need to slow down and get direction first!
