Independence Day!

August 17, 2007 by Joanna K Jansma

Hari Kemerdekaan

August 17th is  Independence Celebration here in Asia Pacific!  It was a neat opportunity to celebrate together with neighbors and friends even though I am not able to belt out the national anthem with any great fluency or musical ability.  As part of traditions here, the neighborhoods usually enjoy competing in different competitions..such as who can eat this “cracker/chip” type thing the fastest…no hands!  It is a lot more hilarious to watch and laugh than to have to try and eat the moving cracker oneself.  Yes, I am now the voice of experience!  Maybe by next year I will able to compete with more skill in these neighborhood games…I better start practicing!!
