“Recently my uncle died. He had said no to what Jesus did for him. And so when he died I know his spirit did not stay here but went straight to the fire. That’s what God says.
But the day after we buried him, as it was getting dark my cousin went out to my uncle’s garden to get some food. Suddenly he heard this rustling in the sugarcane ad got so scared he left without getting anything. He came back and told us: “I just heard your uncle’s spirit in his garden! He was in the sugarcane! He was telling us to not take his sugarcane or anything from his garden! So don’t anybody go out there! His spirit is still there.”
But I said: “That’s not true! My uncle’s spirit can’t be out there in the sugarcane because that’s not what God’s Word says. Maybe you heard a wild pig or some wind in the sugarcane. Satan just wants you to think God’s Word is not true! Satan wants to deceive us, but we have to believe what God says is true talk!

“Not just my cousin. Satan did that to me too at a different time. I was going out fishing by flashlight and I heard a bird suddenly under the sagu palm. I got scared and thought, “I should go home! We know that bird sound means it’s someone’s spirit!” But then I remembered that I have God’s Spirit with me now so I said, “That is just Satan trying to lie to me! Don’t be afraid!” So I didn’t get scared and go home but just kept on going and still went fishing. Satan is a deceiver and he is trying to put those thoughts in my cousin’s thinking so he will think what God said isn’t true! But God gave us His Spirit to help us remember the truth when we get afraid like that!”
As my friend shared this testimony I was thinking, “Sure, I don’t get spooked out by spirits in the sugarcane. But I too need the Spirit’s help each day to remember His voice of truth instead of my own thinking!”
