Random Thoughts From This African Home

March 18, 2014 by Joel and Andi

  • I now have 6 numbers in my phone for Joel depending on which country he is in at the moment
  • We are slowly getting mentally ready to dive into Wolof again
  • Cecil started selling fruit just around the corner, which means I only have to walk around the corner to get fruit and I can sit and talk to her any time of day…Double Score!
  • Paul came by this weekend.  His training is going well and he is getting ready to do the practical part – ministering out in villages
  • Joel’s parent’s are bring a container over for their move, so I have been doing a little shopping for our home…can we say Christmas in June!
  • Recently when we talk to the kids in French they stay in French with us rather than switching back to English.  This might be useful for helping them hold onto their French over furlough.
  • My mom sent us a package with a 220v toaster oven and 15 pounds of cheddar cheese…yep my parents are awesome!
  • My boys might have made a game with points based on how many worms they could pick out of the cauliflower (before we cooked it :))  I will neither confirm or deny.
  • I have been trying to come up with car and plane entertainment ideas for the 50 + hours we have of travel this July (any ideas gladly welcome!)
  • There is another wedding at our church this weekend…we will see what adventures await!

Random Pictures To Go With Random Thoughts

Heaven in a Bag or at least that is what Tyler would tell you
Yay for another marriage announced to soon take place!
Coke - one of the things that can be found almost anywhere you go
Food and cloths out to dry
Lunch is almost ready
Such a Bummer
When life throws you puddles, walk through them
A nice cozy ride
When there is a hole in the wall it must be for looking

My in-laws gave Gracia some neat things for when we travel. One is a DVD case that they put colored pencils and paper in for her to draw with. And they made a whole bunch of things out of mint tins, like a doll bed, tic-tac-toe, etc… Here’s some pictures of the mint tins. http://purposelyfrugal.com/2013/12/27/mint-tin-gifts/#.UyiQTM4qmSo

Entertainment during travel – the whole family can listen to Mrs G! The MP3 downloads are cheap or free (depending on where you download them from). Good times to be had by all!

By the way, if you come up with good ideas, let us know. We’re going to be doing a whole lot more than 50 hours this summer. 🙂
