Tyler Turns 5

June 12, 2014 by Joel and Andi

This is a picture of Tyler the week we arrived in Senegal
He was so little and speaking in only broken sentences
Yet today he turned 5! So hard to believe

When we left Tyler was only a toddler and he more than any of the rest of us has changed drastically over these 3 years.  So here are somethings you might like to know about him as we return…

  • He loves eating anything that involves noodles or french fries. However other than that he is our wild card and probably the most picky eater in our family!  Yes the non chocolate gene must be dominate, because both our boys caught it.
  • He loves being outside, but is not a fan of being dirty or wet and is an expert shade finder.
  • If you need anything organized or arranged he is happy to help.
  •  He will be happy to talk to you in French, English and even attempt in wolof as long as your are willing to listening and maybe even if you aren’t listening.  And yes he knows the answer to any question and don’t try to tell him he is wrong.
  • He is our night owl who stays up reading books in his bed long after his brother is asleep and is happy to sleep in if the climate allows.
  • He loves music and has great rhythm
  • He loves creating his own games and will spend hours doing that all on his own.
  • He brother is his best friend and on a good day they enjoy hours of play.
  • He can often be confused with a monkey because in his mind anything off the ground must be build for climbing and jumping.
  • He has no memories of Portland and will be meeting everyone there for the first time when we return.
For his birthday we had a pool party at a friends house
We played games and did crafts
It was a great celebration
Happy Birthday Tyler, You are an amazing gift to us!

Wow, that is so fun to see the changes. What a dramatic difference! Interesting coincidence that our oldest is also a Tyler and just last night we were looking at pictures of our kids from 7 years ago and marveling at the changes. Can’t wait to see that monkey and his family! : )
