Burkina Faso

September 8, 2015 by Joel and Andi

There is so much I could say, but words couldn’t express it all.  However we were very encouraged by our first trip.  We enjoyed the opportunity to connect with people there.  We feel like we were able to get a better idea of the context where our missionaries are living.  We were able to listen to many and hear their realities and struggles and also what God is at work doing.  We learned so much and were blessed by the trip in so many ways.

Where words can’t fill in the detail, we will leave pictures to do what they can.  However there are so many of even those.  So I have decided to divide it in a few posts.

The first post will be what we did while we were there.  We met with 5 missionaries while down there.  Our goal was to help with language and culture learning and to get a better idea of their context and struggles.  It was my first time helping people learning a language that I didn’t already speak.  I learned a lot and God was so faithful and proved strong even in my weakness.  While there, we also connected with the pastors, host families, language helpers and so many more.  We accomplished even more over the 10 days we were there than we thought we would.  God sure was good!

We came to connect with the context in Burkina
Welcome to Burkina
To connect with our missionaries there
While there we connected with our missionaries
I sat in on their language sessions
I sat in on their language sessions
and gave what advice I could
and gave what advice I could
We traveled by bus out to the town where they live
We traveled by bus out to the town where one family lives
We walked around town to see and meet those they knew
We walked around town to see and meet those they knew
We meet their friends
We connected with their friends
Did a little shopping
Did a little shopping
Traveled out to see new born pigs
Got to see newborn pigs
Participated in Bible study and church
Participated in Bible study and church
Learned about making soap
Learned about making soap
Even participated a little
Even participated a little in the processes
What an interesting process it was
What an interesting process it was
We traveled out to the village where they hope to work
We traveled out to the village where they hope to work
Met with the elders of the village and saw the land they were giving the missionaries for their house
Met with the elders of the village and saw the land they were giving the missionaries for their house
We met so many who we are praying will be touched by God's truth
We met so many who we are praying will be touched by God’s truth
We did our own laundry
We did our own laundry
And learned a few new ways to get around
And learned a few new ways to get around
We were so touched by what God is doing
We were so touched by what God is doing
We are praying for the idols to be torn down
We are praying for the idols to be torn down
And for God's word to reach those who have yet to hear
And for God’s word to reach those who have yet to hear
