Highlights From the Past Few Weeks

May 14, 2016 by Joel and Andi

The Most Fun Thing From the Past Few Weeks….

The boys had a 2 week break from School

We spent 4 days away at the beach to get some much needed down time.  We were able to do puzzles, play in the ocean, have family game time and so much more!

It was a great break from a few days

A First in the Past Few Weeks…

A family vaccination run for some of those special shots we get to have for living in Africa.  For the first time, there were NO TEARS shed and of course it was followed up by Ice Cream!

The Craziest Thing I did in the Past Few Weeks…

The Kitchen where we prepared for hundreds of people
The Kitchen where we prepared for hundreds of people

Last weekend I was at a wedding with Cecile, my host mom.  While there, I spent most of the weekend back in the “kitchen” helping with food preparation.  I was given the task of finding all of the 100 chicken stomachs among a pile of all the inner organs.  I then cut them all open cleaned them out and prepared them for cooking.  I think I can call myself an expert now!

The Hardest Thing we did in the Past Few Weeks…

Although the stomachs were an adventure the hardest part of the weekend was staying up until 2am cutting onions in the dark holding my phone in flashlight mode for a little lite for over 3 hours.  Thankfully after the first 30 min all the onion drawn tears were shed.

The Most Encouraging thing in the Past Few Weeks…

An opportunity to teach and help
An opportunity to teach and help

We hosted a 5 day workshop to encourage people in the midst of culture and language learning.  It was great to get an opportunity to work one one one with so many people and help them along in their language sessions.

A Moment Investing In the Future…

A team came out from our training center to get a taste of life.  We got the privilege to host them at our host families house.

We prepared them a meal

Then all ate together
Then all ate together

At the end Cecile shared with them her advice for a new missionary to the field.

The Coolest Moment of the Past few weeks…

Wearing our new matching family outfits and living in a place where it is appreciated 🙂  …Pictures to come later!

What God Has Been Teaching Me…

To enjoy the down times when they come and allow God to renew our souls.

The moments are rare so we treasure them when they arrive.
