Weddings, Babies and Funerals

January 29, 2018 by Joel and Andi

It seems that in most cultures these are some of the normal large events of life.  Things are no different here, but we just have a larger circle with which we can participate in these large life events.  So it seems like there is always one of the other happening around us.  Within first 2 weeks we were welcomed back fully this pace of life with one of each of these events.

The wedding was one we know was coming.  It is a very close friend who was waiting for our return so that we would not miss her wedding.  The closer the person is to you the more responsibilities you have in the preparation of the wedding.  So this was a multiple day even for us.  Joel’s mom was in charge of decorations, so we were making napkin flowers all week.  Joel was the driver and so we decorated our car as well.  I helped with all of those items as well as helping with the cooking and food service.  This was the first time that we were close enough to someone getting married to go the the official signing at the mayors office.  I also spent the night before the wedding with the family.  We were sure happy to see them getting married as it has been along time coming.  It was an honor to be part of this special day with them.

Joel’s Mom did great with decorations
We decorated the car as well
I helped with making gallons of fresh juice
Joel was the chauffeur for the day
It was an honor to be there as they signed their documents
The day of the wedding was a great celebration
As we watched a dear friend get married
We pray that God will bless them as they start their life together

The next day at church we had a pastor from the village present his new baby and the name was announced for the first time.  This is a big event and he wanted it to happen within the family of God.

The same day the death of a family member from the village was announced.  For the second time we in 2 weeks we headed out to the village to give our condolences to the family.  It has been quite a welcome back to life as we get reacquainted with the pace of life that seems to be always happening around us.   It is crazy busy at times, but all in all it is just really good to be back!
