{"id":3189,"date":"2014-05-14T11:25:18","date_gmt":"2014-05-14T11:25:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/joel-mcmartin\/?p=3189"},"modified":"2014-05-14T14:13:01","modified_gmt":"2014-05-14T14:13:01","slug":"flat-isaac","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/joel-mcmartin\/2014\/05\/14\/flat-isaac\/","title":{"rendered":"Flat Isaac"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>For a school project, Isaac (my sisters middle child), sent us a flat version of himself for us to take pictures and share a little bit about our life here. \u00a0The boys were excited to do stuff with flat Isaac and I got to thinking that some of you might enjoy seeing the picture we got too. \u00a0Here is the letter that Flat Isaac wrote to Isaac about his time here.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Dear Isaac,<\/p>\n<p>Thank you for sending me to Africa. \u00a0It is hard for me to find the words to describe everything I saw, smelled, heard, tasted and touched. \u00a0Life here is very different. \u00a0However I have tried to write a few things down for you to learn a little bit about where your cousins live. \u00a0I hope that someday you too will get to visit and see it all for yourself.<\/p>\n<p>Your cousins live in a small town an hour outside of the big city of Dakar. \u00a0There is one paved road coming close to their house, but after that it is dirt roads. \u00a0 There is sand everywhere! Ethan had it with jam. Tyler had it with cinnamon and sugar and I had it with chocolate peanut butter. Yum!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After that it was time for school. \u00a0Ethan let me go to school with him. \u00a0It was all in French, but he translated for me.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3205\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">It was fun to meet Ethan&#39;s friends and his teacher<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>School ends at 1 and then we headed home for lunch. \u00a0I was starving as it was very much past a normal lunch time for me, but they seemed to be used to it by now. \u00a0Lunch usually involves a rice dish. \u00a0They eat all around one bowl. \u00a0I was even daring enough to try eating with my hand although I had to be careful and only use my right hand. \u00a0The food was good, but I could see how it takes some getting used to.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3192\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The meal was made of peas, with wild boar meat and fries<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Even the clothes their are different. \u00a0Although a lot of kids can be found wearing shorts and shirts, the grown ups don&#8217;t wear shorts and the ladies all wear skirts. \u00a0Dressing up is a lot more important there. \u00a0It is important to dress up when visiting people, even friends. \u00a0When dressing up they wear traditional cloths which are very colorful and bright.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3196\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3196\" style=\"width:
