{"id":404,"date":"2011-11-18T08:48:00","date_gmt":"2011-11-18T16:48:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/joel-mcmartin\/?p=404"},"modified":"2011-11-18T11:39:43","modified_gmt":"2011-11-18T19:39:43","slug":"an-unexpected-break","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/joel-mcmartin\/2011\/11\/18\/an-unexpected-break\/","title":{"rendered":"An Unexpected Break"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week our language helper hurt her knee. \u00a0As a result we only had one day of class this week. \u00a0The break was really nice. \u00a0It wasn&#8217;t until we took the break that I realized what a toll language learning has had on my mind and body. \u00a0We were able to get caught up in life and rest. \u00a0Here are somethings we learned and\u00a0experienced\u00a0on our break.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>-Update on our Move<\/strong> &#8211; We are still in the process of deciding if we will move out of Dakar. \u00a0We HAVE decided that we will take a trip to the city with Joel&#8217;s parents when they are here. \u00a0We are hoping after that trip to make a decision and start working out the logistics of when and how. \u00a0We will be done with the official language school at the end of\u00a0February, which is just around the corner.<\/li>\n<li> &#8211; <strong>Tori is influencing our children.<\/strong> Tyler now can be caught frequently reading cookbooks. Usually when he turns the page he says, &#8220;mmmm delicious&#8221; . \u00a0Ethan walked into the room the other day and said &#8220;I smell something delicious, is that butter Georgette.<\/strong> Georgette comes and helps around the house 3 days a week. \u00a0She has become a great friend and she is a wealth of knowledge. \u00a0If we need to go anywhere or buy anything, she is the one we talk to about it.<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_405\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-405\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img time<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li>\n<li>&#8211; <strong>When locked out of our house, the roof makes a wonderful place for a picnic.<\/strong> Tuesday is &#8220;buy one get one free&#8221; pizza night (not the same as American pizza, but it is still pizza). \u00a0However on the way home from our pizza purchase, Joel got\u00a0separated\u00a0from us. \u00a0He also had the keys to our house. \u00a0So the boys, Tori and I had dinner on the roof. \u00a0Ethan thought we should eat there every night.<\/li>\n<li><strong>-Bartering Success<\/strong> &#8211; I have successfully bartered on my own now a couple of times. \u00a0I can only talk numbers with them and I don&#8217;t understand all the wonderful things they are telling me about their product, but I can finally go to market on my own if I want to.<\/li>\n<li>&#8211; <strong>Fabric, Fabric and More Fabric. <\/strong>One of the mornings off I ventured out to the fabric market with another missionary. \u00a0The market seemed huge and we only ventured into a part of it. \u00a0I was amazed at all the fabrics and all the colors. \u00a0I bought my first Senegalese outfit. \u00a0Now I am ready for the next big event, whenever it will take it is the key to so many areas in our life right now. \u00a0 Please pray with us that we would all remain healthy, so that our learning can continue.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_407\"
