{"id":5872,"date":"2018-11-12T08:26:57","date_gmt":"2018-11-12T08:26:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/joel-mcmartin\/?p=5872"},"modified":"2018-11-12T08:26:57","modified_gmt":"2018-11-12T08:26:57","slug":"travel-always-an-adventure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/joel-mcmartin\/2018\/11\/12\/travel-always-an-adventure\/","title":{"rendered":"Travel&#8230;always an adventure"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_5797\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5797\" style=\"width: 450px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5797\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/joel-mcmartin\/files\/2018\/09\/20180807_190442-e1542010789602.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/joel-mcmartin\/files\/2018\/09\/20180807_190442-e1542010789602.jpg 600w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/joel-mcmartin\/files\/2018\/09\/20180807_190442-e1542010789602-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/joel-mcmartin\/files\/2018\/09\/20180807_190442-e1542010789602-83x110.jpg 83w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/joel-mcmartin\/files\/2018\/09\/20180807_190442-e1542010789602-188x250.jpg 188w, https:\/\/blogs.ethnos360.org\/joel-mcmartin\/files\/2018\/09\/20180807_190442-e1542010789602-190x253.jpg 190w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5797\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">You just never know what your travel here might come with&#8230;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We are on a bad string with travel adventures.\u00a0 It makes me realize how blessed we were before as things have gone pretty smoothly for us with airport and flight travel even with some of the small more local flights we end up taking.\u00a0 The airplane seats might be broken, but we get there and have even mostly been on time.\u00a0 However this past few months every flight we have had has had issues.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It started with a lost bag when returning from Turkey, that has never been found.<\/li>\n<li>Then my adventure in the Liberia that caused a missed flight<\/li>\n<li>Then Joel&#8217;s flight to Guinea got canceled because they cut a wire one accident while loading the bags on to the plane.<\/li>\n<li>His next flight security took his batteries out of his flashlight because the picture of things they couldn&#8217;t let pass included a car size battery.<\/li>\n<li>Our last trip to Burkina just as we were getting on the plane security came for Joel and left with him for 20 minutes while I was sitting on the plane with the kids wondering what on earth was going on.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Yesterday I arrived to the airport for my flight to Guinea.\u00a0 I was flying a major airline, so wasn&#8217;t expecting issues.\u00a0 There was no check in counter open.\u00a0 I asked a check in guy for another airline and he said they stopped that flight a week ago.\u00a0 Well that was tricky as I had a ticket for the flight.\u00a0 There was no personnel from the airline as those folks only come when there is a flight.\u00a0 There was no way to call as they have no office in Dakar.\u00a0 The flight was on the monitors and I could see that the flight was still listed online.\u00a0 Finally someone shows up from the airline.\u00a0 He informs me that the authorities of our country are no longer allowing them to pick up passengers here.\u00a0 The flight still stops and lets people off and then continues to Guinea, but they can&#8217;t pick up passengers because our country wants to start their own flight there.\u00a0 However that flight isn&#8217;t scheduled to start up for a few weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Huh?!?\u00a0 Well what now!\u00a0 Why didn&#8217;t they send me an email?
