Wind and Elections<\/strong><\/p>\n

This past week the wind began pick up strength.\u00a0 It is crazy how strong the winds get here and the way it changes some aspects of life.\u00a0\u00a0 We are adapting the the howling of the wind through the cracks in our window shutters and the rustling it causes on our neighbors tin roof held on by rocks and garbage.\u00a0 We also are learning the importance of protecting your eyes from the roaming sand.<\/p>\n

Along with the wind also comes the beginning of election season.\u00a0 Elections are scheduled for the end of February, but the candidates are supposed to be announced this week.\u00a0 We are praying for peaceful elections, but also preparing food and water for possible strikes and shortages.\u00a0 Please pray with us for peace in Senegal during the upcoming month.<\/p>\n

A little bit of culture<\/strong><\/p>\n

In Senegal…<\/p>\n

– Anytime a store or market doesn’t have something (which happens frequently) they always say they “just” ran out.\u00a0 They also always know a place just down the road that has it.<\/p>\n

– It is the customer’s responsibility to have change, not the business’.<\/p>\n

– It is important to watch your step on the bus, as they often have holes in the floor.<\/p>\n

– There is an art to walking without spraying sand everywhere…I am still trying to figure this out.<\/p>\n

Our Progress<\/strong><\/p>\n

Despite the new challenges this week brought, we have really started to see the progress we are making in adapting to life here.\u00a0 Praise God for progress!<\/p>\n

– I have successfully gone one week without tripping on my long skirts.<\/p>\n

– We had our French teacher over for lunch and were able to hold a basic conversation with her.<\/p>\n

– The boys are able to walk longer distances without complaint, once they have been convinced that they will be walking.<\/p>\n

– We are all becoming more flexible … you never know what might happen here in Africa.<\/p>\n
