for the Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are finally at the point in our language study that we can go on outings with our language helper. \u00a0Our first outing was to Goree Island, which is one of the largest tourist attractions here in Dakar. \u00a0The island is\u00a0accessible\u00a0only by boat and is inhabited by about 1000 people now. \u00a0It historically served as a trading outpost, which includes the slave trade. \u00a0We walked around the island to hear and see its history, a history that has great impact on the people of Senegal today. \u00a0I will be honest that one of the highlights for me was just to be a tourist for the day, which meant I was able to have some freedoms that I haven&#8217;t had in a long time. \u00a0For those who enjoy scenic pictures&#8230;here is
